Boosting a Desert Chic Airbnb Living Room in Landers, CA 🌵

Boosting a Desert Chic Airbnb Living Room in Landers, CA 🌵

In our latest YouTube Bnb Boost, we’re looking at a property in Landers, California. The owner of this Airbnb, Jenny, reached out to us for help with her living area. Jenny’s listing already has stunning photography, glowing reviews, and top-tier amenities like a pool, hot tub, fire pit, and even outdoor games! It’s the kind of place that already feels like a top performer without our help — but even the best listings have room to grow.

We love when hosts like Jenny, who are clearly doing so many things right, still reach out for that extra edge. That’s exactly how great hosts stay in the top 1% of their market.

Desert Chic Done Right

Jenny’s existing aesthetic is on point — think earthy tones, layered neutrals, and subtle accents that speak to the high desert landscape. Overall, it’s a beautiful and well-staged space that passes the vibe check with flying colors.

The Living Room: Room to Elevate

Our goal here was to keep the current vibe and using as many existing pieces as possible. Dive into the specific changes we suggested for the space below, and keep scrolling for the transformation.

Living Room: Before

1. Upsize the TV

The lime-washed feature wall is stunning, but the TV currently feels undersized. A larger screen will look more proportional and enhance the guest experience.

2. Add a TV Console with Storage

We propose adding a sleek, storage-friendly console below the TV in natural tones to keep things cohesive.

Bonus: This provides additional storage for games or extra throw blankets.

3. Reposition the Faux Tree

Jenny already has a great faux tree — we’re just giving it a new home. Moving it to the other side of the room helps visually separate the dining and living spaces and adds vertical interest.

4. Incorporate a Statement Floor Lamp

On the opposite side of the room, we suggest adding a tall, arched floor lamp. It provides warmth and ambiance, while also helping define the space.

5. Swap Out the Accent Chairs

The existing accent chairs look great, but comfort is key in a lounge area. We recommended replacing them with teal or turquoise upholstered chairs to inject some color and enhance the comfort level.

6. Ceiling Wallpaper for a Bold Twist

The biggest transformation? Wallpaper on the ceiling. We're keeping the lime-washed walls but adding a colorful, desert-inspired wallpaper up top. It’s unexpected and will extend into the games room to create a playful, cohesive flow.

7. Curtains for Depth

Even purely decorative curtains can add softness, color, and depth to a space. We recommended installing curtains to do just that, without interrupting the natural light.

8. Keep What Works

Some pieces are already doing the heavy lifting, and we love the way they work:

  • The existing couch stays — it’s perfect.
  • The area rug ties everything together.
  • The concrete-looking coffee table adds great texture and a modern touch.

We also encourage Jenny (and all hosts!) to mix and layer materials — wood, leather, stone, and fabric — for a richer, more immersive environment. Take a look at the dramatic transformation of this space below!
